Frauenau is situated in the centre of the “Bavarian Forest” close to the mountain “Großer Arber”. With its 1456 m altitude the “Großer Arber” does not belong to the Alps but it is also not a hill.
The distance to Munich : appr. 200 km, to Nurenberg: appr. 220 km, to Regensburg: appr.  115 km.

Frauenau is a centre for downhill and cross-country skiing. Many national and international cycle tracks pass Frauenau. There is a 6 km almost flat cycle track from Frauenau to Zwiesel for friends of skating. Water rats can use the heated open air swimming pool in Frauenau and the indoor swimming pool in Zwiesel. In Zwiesel also the „Bavarian Forrest“-sauna has opened, which is a wellness-oasis with a flair of Toscany. For more details watch out the links.

The sport-shop “Berndl” in Frauenau offers weekly courses for Nordic-walking. There is a place for miniature golf in Frauenau.

For spell of bad weather there are plenty of museums in the region.

In Regen you can visit the very interesting museum for agriculture and the castle ruin Weissenstein.

On a long evening in wintertime you can also borrow games and books for every age, both in German and English.
